“Gobi Green Energy” LLC, established in 2016 by “Newcom” group and Japan’s “Terras Energy” (formerly “SB Energy”), specializes in the feasi-bility study of renewable energy projects, project development and research and measurement of solar and wind energy resources in accordance with international best practices.

With 19 years of working experience, “Gobi Green Energy” is a leading company in the renewable energy sector in Mongolia. Initially affiliated with “Clean Energy” LLC in 2004 and later with “Clean Energy Asia” LLC in 2012, the company participated in the project development of these wind farms. Since 2016, Gobi Green Energy Ltd. has been operating as an independent company to develop new projects.

B.Baatarmunkh: Renewable Energy Will Become the Key Driver of Rapid Development

September 14, 2023

The company conducted wind resource assess- ment and base studies and project development for Salkhit, the first privately-invested renewable energy project in Mongolia, and the Tsetsii wind farm in Umnogobi province. The success of these pioneering projects is closely linked with Gobi Green Energy LLC. Furthermore, the company completed the feasibility study of Mongolia’s first 1500MW wind power plant project for export
purposes.

Currently, Gobi Green Energy is working on a feasibility study for a 24 MW PV solar power plant in Salkhit. In addition, the team is developing several projects and preparing feasibility studies. The company also provides technical services for over 20 wind and solar masts throughout Mongolia and assesses renewable energy resources. Specifically, resource measurement has been carried out continuously for 18 years using 16 wind and 6 solar masts procured from the US company “NRG”.

For any research and measurement of renewable energy resources, it is essential to develop a proper feasibility study using the latest technology. That is why the company introduced LIDAR equipment for the first time in Mongolia, which uses laser scanner technology to measure wind resources at heights of up to 350 m. Moreover, sensors with calibration certificates from NRG are installed and operated at wind stations. For processing measurement data, software such as “Symphonie Pro Desktop”, “Symphonie Data Retriever”, “Windographer”, “PVsyst”, “Openwind”, and “SAM” are used.

The DT-2 automatic stations from the US company “NRG” measures all parameters necessary for the development of a solar power plant project. These stations have the advantage of measuring solar radiation intensity as well as ambient temperature, pressure, humidity, precipitation, and wind speed and direction.

The automatic wind measuring station measures all wind energy parameters every two seconds averages them every 10minutes, and stores them in memory. The original measurement data is then entered into the computer as digital data using “Symphonie Data Retriever”, “Sym-phonie Pro Desktop”, and “Windographer” software to generate respective reports.

LIDAR uses lasers reflected from aerosols (solid particles and liquids in the air) to extract all aspects of wind energy from 40 to 350 m with very high accuracy at every 10 meters of height. LIDAR is the primary instrument used internationally for wind measurement.
